Degree Requirements MSCS:

A total of 66 credit hours of graduate course work are required for the MS degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Depending on undergraduate preparation, students can reduce credit hours by as many as 30 credits and waivers for which a student may be eligible, a minimum of 36 credit hours must be taken at the University.

The MS curriculum for students with a four year computer undergraduate degree will generally consist of 36 credit hours. Students who have weak under graduate grades or have not taken undergraduate computer courses in computer programming, database concepts, algorithms, system analysis, digital logic, computer organization, assembly language and mathematics will be required to take the equivalent. Students may be required to take one or more English courses.

 

Distribution of credits in Master of Computer Science & Engineering

  • Completion of 16 courses, 66 credit for students with bachelor degree in any subject.
  • Completion of 10 courses, 36 credit for students with bachelor degree in Computer Science background.
  • Completions of the project / thesis (6 credit hours)
  • A student must register for at least 9 credits hours per term and may be allowed to register for up to maximum of 25 credit hours per term if recommended by his/her Head. A student must register for the prescribed sessional courses in the respective term within the allowed credit hour limits.
  • Students must complete their studies within a maximum of 7 years and at least 36 credit hours must earn to be eligible for graduation, and this must include the specified core courses.
  • Students with Computer Science background will study 3 semester, 1 year to complete the course.
  • Students with Science/General background will study 6 semester, 2 years to complete the course.

 

Summary of Credit Distribution:

  • 16 Courses (Theory)+ 4 Sessional + 1 Project Thesis = 66 Credit(For general background students)
  • 10 Courses + 1 Project Thesis = 36 Credit (For Computer Science background students)
  • Three semester in a year.
  • A Semester consists of four month, 16 weeks.14 week is for academic teaching, 1 week for exam preparation and 1 week for exam.

Course Duration
Academic Session for MCS program shall extend over a period of 2 academic years, 6 semesters. One academic year is divided into three semesters Summer (May-August),Spring (January-April) and fall (September-December). Each semester will be of 16 weeks duration with 14 weeks for class teaching; 1 week break for examination preparatory leave and 1 week for examinations.

Eligibility for Admission

Individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline from a recognized college or university will be considered for admission to the MS Program. The applicant’s undergraduate grade point average (GPA), GRE score and work experience will be considered in the admission process. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate computer literacy and have received undergraduate credit for precalculus. A personal interview will be encouraged and may be required.Upon acceptance, students will receive a copy of their planned academic program. Students are encouraged to meet periodically with the course coordinator to discuss academic progress, career placement and special needs.
